Wile E. Coyote makes box office comeback with ‘Coyote vs. Acme’

Wile E. Coyote’s revenge is also playing out at the box office.

“Coyote vs. Acme”, the film Warner Bros. had decided not to release and which Ketchup Entertainment saved by acquiring its rights, made its debut in cinemas across the United States and Canada with a solid opening of more than $15 million. The result puts the live-action/animation hybrid in second place at the North American box office. Lucky Red will bring it to Italian cinemas on September 2, CE Report quotes ANSA.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” remains at the top for a fifth consecutive weekend. The latest adventure of the web-slinger played by Tom Holland and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton takes in another $22 million, bringing its total gross in the United States and Canada to $890 million. Second place, therefore, goes to the comedy directed by Dave Green, starring Will Forte and John Cena alongside the famous Looney Tunes characters.

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” continues its run in third place. The blockbuster starring Matt Damon as Odysseus earns another $14 million, down just 27% from last weekend, taking its North American total to $564 million after seven weeks in theaters.

Horror film “Insidious: Out of the Further” takes fourth place, earning $10 million in its second week in theaters. The sixth installment in the franchise, directed by Jacob Chase, drops 60% and reaches a total of $43.6 million in North America.

Rounding out the top five is “The Dog Stars”, the new film from veteran director Ridley Scott, starring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin. The dystopian thriller opens with just $8 million, a disappointing result for a production that cost around $70 million and received a major-studio marketing campaign.
