Hayden Panettiere’s death ruled accidental

American actress Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles in the television series Heroes and Nashville, died on August 16 at the age of 36 after consuming a combination of medications, including fentanyl, a U.S. medical examiner announced, according to AFP.

The Medical Examiner’s Office involved in the investigation added that the autopsy found no signs of trauma and concluded that the death was accidental, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

According to toxicology results, the cause of death was fentanyl ingestion combined with a generic version of Xanax, a muscle relaxant, and an antipsychotic medication.

An investigation has been opened and will now focus on how the actress obtained the medications. The case bears similarities to an earlier tragedy: the death of actor Matthew Perry in 2023.

Born in 1989, Hayden Panettiere began appearing on television as a child.

In addition to her roles in the TV series Heroes and Nashville, she also appeared in films such as Remember the Titans, Ice Princess, Scream 4, and Scream VI.

In her memoir, published in English in May under the title This Is Me: A Reckoning, the American actress spoke about her past as a child star under pressure and about her experience with addiction.

She also spoke about her conflict with her mother, who previously managed her career.

In 2014, Hayden Panettiere gave birth to a daughter with Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko. In one of her final interviews, she told Mome magazine that the extremely painful birth left her depressed and led her to turn to alcohol.

She entrusted custody of her daughter to the child’s father. “I was going through a very difficult period. I knew I had to put her first so that I could get the help I needed and become the mother she needed,” she said in the interview.
