Netflix is inviting fans of the supernatural universe of Stranger Things to attend limited theatrical screenings in the United States of the first two episodes of the animated series Stranger Things: Tales From 85, the streaming platform announced Tuesday, according to Reuters.

According to Netflix, select theaters from the AMC Theatres network will host special screenings of the first two episodes starting April 18, ahead of the show’s global release on the platform on April 23, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

Screenings will take place in 34 cinemas across the United States, as well as at Paris Theater in New York and Netflix House Philadelphia. The animated series is executive produced by Stranger Things creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, alongside producer Eric Robles, known for the Nickelodeon series Fanboy & Chum Chum.

Set in the winter of 1985, the series brings back Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max as they attempt to return to normal life, filled with Dungeons & Dragons sessions, snowball fights and quiet days in Hawkins, Indiana. However, their peace is disrupted by a terrifying force that awakens, forcing them to reunite to solve the mystery and save their town.

Tales From 85 is the latest production in the Stranger Things universe, which has continued to expand after the Duffer brothers launched their production company, Upside Down Pictures, in 2022 under a global deal with Netflix. The agreement also includes a planned live-action Stranger Things spin-off series.

Beyond television, the franchise has expanded into a Tony Award-winning Broadway play, video games, cosplay, immersive live experiences and a wide range of merchandise.

First released in 2016, Stranger Things follows a group of teenage friends in rural Indiana in the 1980s who confront monsters from an alternate dimension known as the Upside Down. The series quickly became one of Netflix’s most successful productions.
