George and Amal Clooney evacuated from French wildfires

George and Amal Clooney are among the more than 220,000 people evacuated due to the wildfires in France.

The couple, aged 64 and 48, along with their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, were forced to leave their home in Brignoles, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, one of the areas affected by the fires, CE Report quotes ANSA.

In a letter to the mayor of Brignoles, revealed by People, Clooney expressed his support and solidarity with the town, which was threatened by the wildfire before firefighters brought the situation under control overnight.

Clooney also said he was ready to help in any way possible.

"Dear Didier," the actor wrote while evacuating, "at this point, we have no idea whether our beautiful home will survive this terrible ordeal. As we leave Brignoles, we want to emphasize two things: first, we hope that all of you, together with the residents of our town, are safe; second, Amal and I are committed to ensuring that, whatever happens, we will remain part of this community and help rebuild it."

He added, "We love Brignoles and the friends who live there."

The letter was written before authorities regained control of the blaze. The wildfire that broke out in Brignoles has since been contained thanks to firefighters' overnight efforts. The fire burned around 130 hectares of land and forced the evacuation of more than 600 people, including the Clooney family.
