Waiting for midnight with the monsters of Stranger Things: the final, highly anticipated episode of the Upside Down saga will be screened simultaneously in theaters and on streaming starting at 8 p.m. (New York time) in 500 cinemas across the United States and Canada, and on the small screen for Netflix subscribers worldwide.

The film will run continuously in theaters throughout New Year’s Day, the platform announced.

Netflix will not earn revenue from in-person screenings, but theater operators will be able to sell vouchers allowing viewers to purchase drinks, popcorn, and other snacks in exchange for a reserved seat via an RSVP page, CE Report quotes ANSA.

Earlier, Netflix and creators Matt and Ross Duffer announced in October that Stranger Things: The Finale would arrive in theaters as well as on streaming — reversing earlier statements that the finale would not be released on the big screen.

“We’re beyond thrilled that fans will have the chance to see the final episode in theaters: it’s something we’ve dreamed about for years, and we’re immensely grateful to Ted Sarandos, Bela Bajaria, and everyone at Netflix for making it possible,” the Duffer brothers said at the time. “Being able to watch it on the big screen, with incredible sound and cinematography, in a room full of fans, feels like the perfect way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”
