Italian steel exports to the United States have significantly dropped since the first administration of President Donald Trump in 2018 introduced 25% tariffs on steel imports from European Union countries, down from 596,828 tons in 2018 to 194,364 tons in 2024, federation of steel manufacturers Federacciai president Antonio Gozzi, CE Report quotes ANSA.

Gozzi noted that it was still unclear whether the recent announcement that tariffs would be imposed signified "a renewal of an already existing provision or the introduction of new restrictive measures".

The Federacciai president also stressed that Italian companies mainly export special high-value steels and that most of the production for US clients is directly based in the United States.
