Austrian schools offer Romanian language lessons
Romanian students attending Austria's public education system have the opportunity to take Romanian language classes as their mother tongue, the Romanian Embassy in Vienna reminded on Friday, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
Romanian is currently taught as a mother tongue in Austrian primary schools (Volksschule) and secondary schools (Allgemeinbildende Höhere Schule) as an optional subject. Although the classes are not graded, participation is recorded on students' final certificates with the notation teilgenommen ("participated").
A list of contact persons responsible for mother tongue education in each Austrian federal state is available online.
Parents can express their interest in enrolling their children in Romanian language classes by informing their schools and completing the relevant registration form.
The coordinator for classes in Vienna is teacher Beatrice Baumgartl, who can be contacted for further information by email at [email protected] or by phone at +43 699 1266 4241. She will also hold two information meetings: on Wednesday, September 16, at BRG Steinbruchstrasse 33 at 4:30 p.m., and on Friday, September 18, at BRG Waltergasse 7 at 2:30 p.m.
