Moldovan President comments on Eurovision voting controversy
Moldovan President Maia Sandu reacted today to the controversy surrounding the votes awarded by Moldova’s jury to Romania’s representative at Eurovision.
Sandu stressed that “nothing and no one should be allowed to affect the relationship between the two countries” and emphasized that “what matters most is that the people of Moldova gave the highest appreciation to the Romanian singers,” CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
“I believe we should not allow anything or anyone to affect the relationship between the two countries, and I truly think it is important that the people of Moldova gave the highest appreciation to the Romanian singers. That is the most important part. And congratulations to both Alexandra and Vlad!” Maia Sandu said.
The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 took place in Vienna on May 16. Moldova’s jury awarded only three points to Romania’s representative, Alexandra Căpitănescu, who eventually finished third in the competition, while the Moldovan public gave her the maximum score.
The situation sparked a wave of criticism and reactions in the public space. As a result, Vlad Țurcanu, director-general of the “Teleradio-Moldova” company, announced his resignation.
