North Macedonia's Philharmonic performs “Rhapsody” with Ava Bahari as soloist

Led by Israeli conductor Bar Avni, the North Macedonia's Philharmonic performed Thursday a concert titled "Rhapsody" featuring Swedish violinist Ava Bahari as soloist.

According to the Philharmonic, the concert program consists of Antonín Dvořák’s "The Golden Spinning Wheel" Op. 109, B. 197, Ernest Chausson’s Poème for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 25, Maurice Ravel’s "Tzigane" Rhapsody for violin and orchestra, Op. 76 and the "Carmen Suite" after George Bizet by Rodion Shchedrin.

Bar Avni (b. 1989, Israel) gained international attention after winning the 2024 La Maestra competition in Paris, CE Report quotes MIA.

Currently the chief conductor of the Bayer Philharmonic, and the first woman to hold the post in its 120-year history, she has worked with the Israel Philharmonic and the Hamburg Chamber Orchestra.

A former percussionist, Avni studied in Tel Aviv, Graz and Hamburg.

Ava Bahari (b. 1996, Gothenburg) has been described by The Strad magazine as a "significant new talent."

She is the 2024-25 and 2025-26 artist-in-residence with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

Her recent highlights include debut performances with the Helsinki Philharmonic and the Tokyo Symphony.

A graduate of the Hans Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, Bahari performs on a 1694 Stradivarius violin on loan from the ASAF Fund.
