Croatia’s region prepares for annual cultural event
The 59th Šokačko Sijelo, the most important traditional cultural event of the Posavina region at Županja, Croatia, will take place in that town from 6 to 17 February.
The programme opens with a folklore seminar, followed by the official opening and the popular Šokac Flower 2026 competition. New this year is the Šokac Songs music festival, CE Report quotes HINA.
Events also include a round table on the 'špenzla', a traditional wool jacket from the Habsburg Military Frontier, as well as the "Golden Threads" trade fair, folklore evenings and Carnival events.
The Šokačko Sijelo concludes on 14 February with the traditional Peasants' Ball.
Županja Mayor Damir Juzbašić welcomed visitors to the 59th Šokačko Sijelo, while Vukovar-Srijem County Prefect Ivan Bosančić pointed out that all county traditional events, including the Šokačko Sijelo, promote unity and inclusiveness.
