The team of the “B.P. Hasdeu” Musical-Dramatic Theatre in Cahul could perform in the institution’s new building in 2026, announced Minister of Culture Cristian Jardan during a working visit to Cahul, Moldova.

The official assured that completing the construction — which began more than a decade ago — is one of the priorities of his mandate, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

“The B.P. Hasdeu Theatre is one of the most important cultural institutions in the south of the country. Unfortunately, for several reasons, work on the new building, launched back in 2012 with the generous support of Romania, was not completed. However, construction has reached an advanced stage, and our goal is to finish it as soon as possible,” the minister said.

Cristian Jardan announced that the third tender has been launched to select the company that will bring the project to completion, stressing that it could become the first theatre built in the Republic of Moldova in the past four decades.

During the visit, the minister toured the building under construction and discussed with the theatre’s management the remaining steps: technical acceptance, essential equipment, and preparing the space for opening to the public.

He also visited the theatre’s old headquarters, where the troupe continues to work under modest conditions.

“Even without proper facilities, the actors manage to create and bring joy to audiences in Cahul and throughout the region,” the minister emphasized.

Founded in 1987, the “B.P. Hasdeu” Theatre is known for promoting national dramaturgy and for its strong activity in rural areas. Construction of the new building was agreed through a memorandum signed in 2014 between the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, as a symbol of cultural cooperation between the two countries.
