Joint projects and the impact of European programs on the cultural sector of the Republic of Moldova were the main topics discussed during the meeting between the Minister of Culture, Cristian Jardan, and the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Chișinău, Iwona Piorko.

According to the minister, the discussions focused on ways to bring more opportunities to artists, cultural organizations, and creative industries, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

Special emphasis was placed on extending these opportunities to the regions in order to ensure social cohesion and unity through active public participation.

“With the EU Ambassador, Iwona Piorko, we discussed our common projects and the impact of European programs on the cultural sector, as well as how we can bring more opportunities to artists, cultural organizations, and creative industries in our country. In particular, we talked about how these opportunities can be expanded to the regions so more people can benefit from them and to ensure the social cohesion and unity we all need,” the minister wrote on his Facebook page.

The minister highlighted the “Creative Europe” program, recently ratified by the Government, which will be accessible to creators from the Republic of Moldova starting January 1 and represents a concrete example of the advantages of European integration for the cultural sector.

“European integration is not only about the future but especially about the present. Every step we take in this direction brings direct benefits,” Cristian Jardan stated.

The Republic of Moldova will benefit from European funds for cultural projects, will be able to participate in international events and collaborations, and young creatives will have the chance to develop new skills in arts and culture. In addition, the “Creative Europe” program will support the mobility of artists and facilitate exchanges of experience between professionals from different countries, thus contributing to the increased competitiveness and visibility of the cultural sectors.

The agreement was signed on September 2 and is pending ratification by Parliament.

The “Creative Europe” program (2021–2027) is the European Union’s main instrument for supporting the cultural and creative sectors, with a total budget of approximately 2.4 billion euros.
