Bulgarian Film "Made in EU" receives Critics' Award in France
The film Made in EU, directed by Stefan Komandarev, has received the Critics' Award at the Arras Film Festival in France, the film's team announced.
The film was also the opening feature of the 39th Kinomania Festival last Thursday, CE Report quotes BTA.
The jury, composed of film critics and journalists from France 2, France Inter, Allocine, Konbini, Vanity Fair, and Paris Match, awarded the prize unanimously. After the ceremony, director Stefan Komandarev spoke with the jury members, who will each write reviews of the film for their respective media outlets, which is expected to support the film's distribution in France.
Made in EU will next be screened tomorrow at the Gijon International Film Festival in Spain, competing in the "Masters of Contemporary Cinema" program. The film is scheduled for release in Bulgarian cinemas starting this Friday.
The film tells the story of Iva, a seamstress in a small town, and her son. Iva is accused of causing a pandemic outbreak in the town and becomes a scapegoat, pursued by a system that has profited from her labor for years. Made in EU was filmed in the southern Bulgarian towns of Haskovo, Dimitrovgrad, Madan, and Rudozem. The cast includes Gergana Pletnyova, Todor Kotsev, Gerasim Georgiev-Gero, Ivaylo Hristov, Anastasia Ingilizova, Ivan Barnev, Ovanes Torosyan, Martina Peneva, among others.
