Billie Eilish donates entire tour proceeds to charity
Grammy-winning singer Billie Eilish puts her words into action when it comes to philanthropy, according to CNN.
She recently accepted the Music Innovator Award at the Wall Street Journal Magazine Innovator Awards ceremony held in New York, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Before the award was presented, well-known TV host Stephen Colbert thanked her for allowing him to “announce some big news.”
“This is an extraordinary gesture,” Colbert said. “Billie Eilish will donate the proceeds from her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour to support organizations, projects, and voices focused on food equity, social justice, pollution reduction, and fighting the climate crisis.”
The donated amount is $11.5 million.
“It’s fantastic,” Colbert added. “Billie, on behalf of humanity, thank you so much.”
Eilish then took the stage to receive her award and addressed the billionaires in attendance — among them, Mark Zuckerberg was reportedly present.
“We’re living in a time when the world is very, very bad and dark, and people need compassion and help more than ever, especially in our country,” she said. “If you have money, it would be nice to use it for good things — maybe give it to those who need it.”
With humor, Eilish added:
“I love you all, but some of you here have way more money than I do.”
Speaking directly to the billionaires, she asked:
“If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give away your money.”
In closing, she again expressed her love and gratitude to everyone present.
