Sofia’s Wagner Fest Opens with Tannhäuser

The Sofia Opera Wagner Festival, the highlight of the 2024/2025 season, kicks off on Thursday. The internationally acclaimed event draws opera fans, critics, and media from across Europe and beyond, including Germany, Italy, the USA, Turkiye, and Spain, CE Report quotes BTA

This year’s festival opens with the premiere of Tannhäuser on June 26, directed by Plamen Kartalov and conducted by Constantin Trinks. The performance marks the ninth Wagner opera in the theatre’s repertoire. It will be followed by four evenings of The Ring of the Nibelung, conducted by Evan Christ — a cycle that has cemented the festival’s global reputation.

The finale returns to Tannhäuser on July 5.

With its distinctive artistic vision and international recognition, the Wagner Festival in Sofia has become one of Europe’s leading opera events.
