Renowned Yiddish actor and director Avi Hoffman will visit Romania for the 10th edition of TES FEST, the Yiddish International Theatre Festival, taking place in Bucharest from May 21–30. The event is organized by the State Jewish Theatre, CE Report quotes Agerpres
This year’s festival marks a double celebration: its 10th edition and the 185th anniversary of Abraham Goldfaden, the "Father of Yiddish Theater."
Opening the festival is the world premiere of Song of Songs, based on King Solomon's text and directed by Alexander Hausvater, in his fifth collaboration with the State Jewish Theatre.
The lineup includes professional Yiddish theater troupes from the U.S., Israel, and Poland, as well as world-renowned klezmer artists. Highlights include Israel's Yiddishpiel Theater’s The Golden Bride and Poland’s State Jewish Theater with Ghetto Gancels, a tribute to the heroes of Warsaw.
Workshops for both actors and the public will be led by American guests, including Zalmen Mlotek of the New York State Jewish Theatre and Avi Hoffman.
TES FEST aims to bridge cultures through Yiddish theater, with all performances translated into Romanian.
