Geraki fire situation improved, forces remain at site, Fire Dept says

The situation with the large fire that broke out on Friday afternoon in a forest area of Geraki in NW Peloponnese has largely improved, the Fire Department said on Friday evening, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

According to local officials, the fire's large front has been put out and smaller pockets are still burning.

The forces remaining in the field include 265 firefighters with 6 units of terrain firefighters and 83 fire trucks. During the day, 8 airplanes and 9 helicopters also joined the operation, with 2 of the helicopters used for coordination. The Region of Western Greece contributed water trucks and large earth machinery.
