A delegation from the Republic of Moldova, led by National Bank Governor Anca Dragu and Finance Minister Adrian Gavrilita, is participating in the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, taking place from April 13–18, 2026, in Washington, D.C., CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The visit agenda includes a series of meetings with representatives of the IMF, World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and other international financial organizations.

High-level dialogue with the IMF is taking place in the context of Moldova’s request to initiate a new three-year program without a financial component.

“The decision to opt for a non-financial instrument reflects the improvement in Moldova’s macroeconomic situation, which no longer justifies the need for emergency financing,” the National Bank of Moldova stated.

“Maintaining cooperation with the Fund is a strategic element for Moldova’s European path and will support national authorities in accelerating key reforms and attracting foreign investment,” Anca Dragu emphasized.

The agenda also includes discussions on national macroeconomic developments and outlook, implementation of the 2025 Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) recommendations, strengthening the independence of the central bank, and its role in European integration, including the implementation of the 2025–2027 Growth Plan reform agenda.

During the meetings, the BNM Governor is scheduled to meet IMF officials, including Kenji Okamura, Alfred Kammer, Jeroen Clicq, and Alina Iancu.

She will also hold talks with World Bank representatives, including Eugene Rhuggenaath, Antonella Bassani, and Alfonso Garcia Mora.

The event serves as an international platform for dialogue on economic and financial policy, offering Moldova the opportunity to strengthen partnerships with major global financial institutions.

At the same time, this year’s meetings are taking place in a dynamic geopolitical context and will allow Moldova to promote its national priorities, including its European integration objectives, the National Bank of Moldova concluded.
