Greek state budget surpasses 2024 targets
The Greek state budget achieved a primary surplus of €12.012 billion for January–November 2024, surpassing the €9.912 billion target and significantly higher than the €5.826 billion recorded in the same period of 2023, according to the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Tax revenues exceeded expectations by €106 million, totaling €60.67 billion, while net state budget revenues amounted to €66.722 billion, €304 million above the target. November alone contributed €5.391 billion to net revenues, slightly exceeding monthly projections.
Expenditures for the January–November period totaled €62.346 billion, €1.779 billion below the revised target but €2.151 billion higher than 2023 due to increased interest payments and Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) expenditures. Key disbursements included military procurement, heating allowances, disaster compensation for agricultural losses, and grants to health and transportation sectors.
The Ministry highlighted that the primary surplus benefited from a €206 million extraordinary levy on electricity providers and adjusted spending timelines for military procurement and social security transfers. Investment spending reached €9.934 billion, exceeding 2023 levels by €1.348 billion but falling short of the revised target by €510 million.
These figures underscore the government’s improved fiscal performance amid careful expenditure management and sustained revenue growth.
