China condemns US pressure on trade partners, warns of countermeasures

China will adopt "firm countermeasures to protect its legitimate rights and interests" if any country ends up making trade deals with the United States at the expense of Beijing "in exchange for so-called tariff reductions."

The Ministry of Commerce, over the weekend, expressed its "firm opposition" to such practices through a spokesperson, responding to a media question about recent U.S. trade talks with other economies, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The ministry official said Washington is placing strong pressure on its trade partners to accept reciprocal tariffs — “a typical example of unilateral bullying that seriously undermines the multilateral trading system and disrupts the normal order of international trade.”

China welcomes efforts made by other countries to address trade disputes with the United States “through consultations based on equality,” and calls on all parties to support fairness and justice, stand on the right side of history, and firmly safeguard international trade rules and the multilateral trade system.

“It has been proven that only by consistently upholding one’s own principles and position can a country truly protect its legitimate rights,” the spokesperson added.
