Wholesale Food Prices in Bulgaria See Slight Increase

The wholesale food price index in Bulgaria rose by 0.32% this week, reaching 2.204 points, up from 2.197 points last week. The base level of 1 point was established in 2005, CE Report quotes BTA

Dairy Products:
The price of white brined cheese (cow’s milk) increased by 1.4% to BGN 11.76/kg, while yellow Vitosha-type kashkaval cheese rose by 0.5% to BGN 17.39/kg. Yoghurt (3% fat or higher) saw a 2.9% increase to BGN 1.29 per 400g cup, and fresh milk (3% fat) went up by 2% to BGN 2.41 per liter. Cow's butter rose slightly by 0.1% to BGN 3.04 per 125g package.

Meat and Eggs:
Chicken prices increased by 0.9% to BGN 6.45/kg, while medium-sized eggs decreased by 0.6% to BGN 0.34 per piece.

Grains and Pulses:
Rice prices dropped by 2.3% to BGN 3.37/kg, lentils by 2.5% to BGN 4.28/kg, and dry beans by 3.6% to BGN 4.30/kg. Flour (type 500) fell by 4.8% to BGN 1.30/kg, sugar declined by 0.5% to BGN 1.93/kg, and cooking oil decreased slightly by 0.3% to BGN 3.18 per liter.

Fruits and Vegetables:
Oranges saw a notable drop of 5.7% to BGN 1.98/kg, with tangerines down by 2.5% to BGN 2.26/kg, bananas by 1.3% to BGN 2.65/kg, and lemons by 2.4% to BGN 2.23/kg. Apples fell by 5.5% to BGN 1.61/kg, while grapefruits rose slightly by 0.7% to BGN 2.32/kg.

Greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers dropped by 2.4% and 5.1%, selling at BGN 3.68/kg and BGN 3.00/kg respectively. Ripe onions decreased by 1.6% to BGN 1.10/kg, lettuce fell by 2.8% to BGN 1.12 per piece, and ripe garlic declined by 3.2% to BGN 5.63/kg.

Root Vegetables and Cabbage:
Carrots rose by 4.5% to BGN 1.20/kg, potatoes increased by 0.5% to BGN 1.24/kg, and cabbage saw the highest jump, rising by 6.1% to BGN 1.40/kg.

The data reflects a mixed trend in prices, with some staple foods and vegetables experiencing notable declines while others saw moderate increases.
