Amazon Faces Lawsuit Over Exclusion of D.C. Neighborhoods from Prime Delivery

Business

Amazon is being sued for allegedly excluding two Washington D.C. neighborhoods, ZIP codes 20019 and 20020, from its Prime fast delivery service despite charging residents full subscription fees, the D.C. Attorney General’s Office announced Wednesday, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Attorney General Brian Schwalb accused Amazon of "secretly" stopping the use of its branded trucks for Prime deliveries in these areas since June 2022, impacting 48,000 Prime subscribers. As a result, delivery times in these neighborhoods are significantly longer compared to other parts of the city, despite customers paying the standard $14.99 monthly fee.

The lawsuit claims Amazon misled customers by not disclosing these exclusions as the reason for delayed deliveries.

“Amazon is charging tens of thousands of hard-working Ward 7 and 8 residents for an expedited delivery service it promises but does not provide,” Schwalb said. “We’re suing to stop this deceptive conduct and ensure District residents get what they’re paying for.”
