Bulgaria Urges Equal EU Support for Black Sea Region

Bulgaria

The Bulgarian National Assembly has called on the EU to grant the Black Sea region equal status to other border areas adjacent to Ukraine, Belarus, or Russia. A draft declaration submitted by four parliamentary groups on July 31 urges the European Commission, Parliament, and Council to reflect this position in future legislative and funding frameworks, CE Report quotes BTA

The declaration highlights the importance of EU cohesion policy in driving Bulgaria’s regional development and mandates the Council of Ministers to defend this stance in the ongoing mid-term review of the EU’s cohesion policy and the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034).

Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev earlier stressed that Bulgaria will push to preserve the traditional aims of cohesion policy, which remain vital in correcting market-driven imbalances across the EU.
