Patras–Pyrgos Motorway Partially Opens
A major milestone for Western Greece was reached today as 65 of the 75 kilometers of the new Patras–Pyrgos motorway officially opened to traffic at noon, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced in an interview with Patras radio station MAX FM on Friday, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
“This is a very important day,” Mitsotakis said, recalling his 2019 pledge to complete the long-delayed project. He criticized the previous government's handling of the project and praised the current administration’s success in restarting construction and securing EU funding.
The final 10 kilometers, completing the connection to Patras, are expected to be delivered by November 30, 2025, coinciding with the feast of St. Andrew, the city’s patron saint.
The prime minister also discussed plans for a southern extension of the motorway toward Ancient Olympia and Tsakona, calling it a challenging but necessary step to fully integrate Western Greece with Messinia.
