Bulgaria icon named among top 100 strikers
Levski and Bulgaria icon Georgi “Gundi” Asparuhov has been ranked 78th among the 100 greatest strikers in football history by British outlet SPORTbible. He is the only Bulgarian on the list, CE Report quotes BTA
The ranking is topped by Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario, followed by Eusebio and Marco van Basten. Active stars like Luis Suárez and Robert Lewandowski also feature in the top ten.
Asparuhov, born in 1943, spent most of his career at Levski, winning three league titles and three national cups. He scored 18 goals in 49 games for Bulgaria and played in three World Cups (1962, 1966, 1970). Tragically, he died in a car accident in 1971.
Posthumously honored as Bulgaria’s Footballer of the 20th Century and awarded the Balkan Range Order, Asparuhov remains a revered figure in Bulgarian football history.
