Berlin Brandenburg Airport cancels all flights
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (IATA code: BER) announced that no flights will operate on Wednesday due to a strike called by the Verdi union, AFP and dpa reported.
Around 445 flights — arrivals and departures — had been scheduled, affecting approximately 57,000 passengers, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
The airport’s CEO, Aletta von Massenbach, described the strike as “disproportionate,” particularly as the war involving Iran is already disrupting global air traffic.
Verdi said on Monday that its members would stop work because employers “refuse to present an offer open to negotiation” in talks over a new collective labor agreement for the next 12 months.
The union is demanding a 6% wage increase or at least €250 more per month for its 2,000 members. However, the employer last week presented an initial offer that reportedly included only a 1% annual increase until 2028.
