Ljubljana Airport welcomed the inaugural EasyJet flight from Manchester with a ceremony as the British low-cost carrier added a new regular service to its existing one from London Gatwick Airport.

In the upcoming spring season EasyJet also plans to operate scheduled flights between Ljubljana and Edinburgh, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.

The new service to Manchester will provide Slovenian travellers with direct access to northern England, one of the UK's most vibrant regions. Manchester is known for its rich industrial heritage, its lively cultural and music scene, and, above all, for its world-famous football clubs - including Manchester United, for which Slovenian football star Benjamin Šeško plays, Fraport Slovenija, the operator of Ljubljana Airport, noted on the occasion.

Manchester is also a major business and educational centre, home to many universities and technology companies.

EasyJet will operate flights every Tuesday and Saturday using an Airbus A320 aircraft with 186 seats. One-way fares start from €29.49.

"We are delighted that EasyJet has strengthened our long-standing partnership by introducing this new route, further expanding the range of low-cost connections available from our airport. Flights to Manchester will be a valuable addition to our connectivity with the UK market, supporting both inbound tourism and stronger business links between our two countries," said Babett Stapel, managing director of Fraport Slovenija.

EasyJet has been operating at Ljubljana Airport since 2004, when it first introduced flights to London. Manchester serves as one of EasyJet's major bases, offering connections to more than 80 destinations across Europe, including major cities and popular Mediterranean holiday spots.
