In October 2024, Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded 182,405 tourist visits, which is a decrease of 11.3 percent compared to September 2024, but an increase of 9.6 percent compared to October 2023, CE Report quotes FENA.

The figures released by the country's statistical agency also show a rise in the number of overnight stays. Tourists stayed an average of 2.5 nights in October, contributing to a stable revenue stream for the tourism sector. The majority of visitors came from neighboring countries, with Serbia, Croatia, and Montenegro leading the way, followed by a notable increase in visitors from Western Europe and the Middle East.

Authorities attribute the annual growth to a series of successful marketing campaigns, improvements in infrastructure, and the country's rich cultural heritage, which continues to attract international visitors. Key tourist destinations such as Sarajevo, Mostar, and the UNESCO-listed town of Jajce remain popular, along with an emerging interest in rural and eco-tourism experiences.

Looking ahead, industry experts predict that the country's tourism sector will continue to grow, driven by investments in both traditional and alternative tourism offerings. However, the decline in October compared to September raises questions about seasonal fluctuations and potential challenges during the upcoming winter months.

To address this, tourism officials are focusing on promoting winter sports and winter holiday packages, hoping to maintain tourist interest and bolster the economy during the off-peak season. The sector's recovery post-pandemic has been resilient, and authorities are confident that Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to be a sought-after destination in the coming years.
