Trump says Qatar-donated Air Force One to undergo major upgrades
U.S. President Donald Trump said the new Air Force One aircraft donated by Qatar will undergo a modernization program to bring it to "the highest level."
According to The New York Times, Trump made the remarks after returning to Washington from New Jersey, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.
Responding to a reporter's question about reports that the aircraft lacks a missile defense system, Trump said the plane already has extensive equipment but added that it would soon be sent for further upgrades.
"As I understand it, they're going to send it in about a month to bring it up to the highest level," Trump said.
He noted that the modernization process would take approximately one month but did not provide details on the specific systems or capabilities that would be added.
Earlier, The New York Times, citing U.S. officials, reported that the new presidential aircraft does not include some of the defensive capabilities found on the current Air Force One fleet, including missile defense systems.
