Xiaomi unveils ambitious 2026 target

Tech & Science

Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has set a target of selling 550,000 electric vehicles in 2026, representing a 34% increase compared with the number of cars sold in 2025, EFE reports.

During a live broadcast, the company’s founder and chief executive officer, Lei Jun, said that Xiaomi will “devote more energy to the automotive industry this year,” while also stressing that investments in research and development (R&D) will total approximately $28.6 billion over the next five years, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

However, Xiaomi’s 2026 target still marks a slowdown in growth compared with 2025, when the company’s electric vehicle sales nearly tripled to around 410,000 units.

“The goal should be neither too high nor too low,” Lei noted, expressing confidence that it will be achieved during 2026.

The Beijing-based technology company has not yet announced the launch of a new model this year, after introducing the SU7 sedan in April 2024 and adding the YU7 SUV in June 2025, a model that has accounted for around 70% of sales in recent months.

As reported by CE Report, Xiaomi is not the only Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer to set ambitious goals for the year. BYD, the global leader in the electric vehicle segment, plans to increase its sales by 19%, while another fast-growing company in the sector, Leapmotor, expects to sell up to 40% more electric vehicles this year.
