Meta expands AI features with chatbot in Threads private messages

Tech & Science

Meta is rolling out its Meta AI chatbot on Threads, allowing users to interact with the AI assistant in private messages.

Previously, Threads users in select markets could already interact with Meta AI in public posts, similar to how the Grok chatbot is used on the social network X. The new integration also allows users to communicate with the AI-powered assistant in private messages, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

This makes it possible to send Meta AI posts, images, links, and videos from Threads directly in the chat. Users can also ask follow-up questions and receive more detailed information on topics that interest them.

The company stated that the update began rolling out worldwide on Monday.

The company is testing Meta AI in public Threads feeds in select markets and gathering user feedback before making the feature available to a wider audience. Those who do not want to see Meta AI’s responses in their feed can block the @meta.ai account, use the “not interested” option on Meta AI posts, or hide the chatbot’s responses under their own posts.

By making Meta AI more accessible, the company aims to keep users within its own ecosystem and reduce their reliance on third-party services, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

As reported, Meta, the company that owns the social network Threads, announced on June 16 that its platform, launched in 2023, already has 500 million monthly active users.
