Kevin Durant of the Houston Rockets has said he hopes to represent the United States men’s national basketball team for a fifth time at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, just before turning 40, DPA reports.

Durant, a four-time Olympic champion — most recently at the 2024 Summer Olympics — said Monday night that he told USA Basketball managing director Grant Hill he would like to be considered for the Los Angeles Games, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

“I didn’t want to take my name out of consideration just because I’m older and I’ve done it before,” Durant said after a 125–105 win over the Utah Jazz. “Grant understands my love for Team USA. This is my family. The level of love I have for Team USA and the entire organization there is unmatched, so I’d love to be part of it until I’m done playing.”

Now 37, Durant has won four consecutive Olympic gold medals with the United States, starting at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and is the male team-sport athlete with the most Olympic titles. He is also the all-time leading scorer in U.S. Olympic basketball history.

Despite his stellar career — including two NBA championships in 2017 and 2018 — Durant emphasized that he intends to earn his place on the 2028 roster. “I understand how difficult this decision will be for Grant and how many great players will emerge over the next year and a half. I’m also very old compared to many of these players. I know I have a lot of work to do to make that team,” he said.
