UEFA fines Belgian football club after Europa League incidents
UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body fined Belgian club KRC Genk €50,000 and banned it from selling tickets to its fans for its next away match in European competitions, following incidents that occurred during the away game against Dutch side FC Utrecht in the penultimate round of the Europa League, EFE reported.
According to a statement from the continental governing body, the Belgian club was sanctioned for "disturbance of public order, damage, and throwing of objects," CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
The match, played on January 22, began with a delay of 52 minutes after Genk supporters entered the away supporters’ section without valid tickets, requiring police intervention to clear the area.
In addition, UEFA’s committee ordered Genk to contact FC Utrecht officials within 30 days regarding compensation for the damage caused by the Belgian supporters.
