FIFA sees record demand for 2026 World Cup tickets
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that 150 million requests to purchase tickets for the FIFA World Cup.
It will be held next year in the United States, Mexico and Canada, were received within just two weeks, CE Report quotes MIA.
“We have six to seven million tickets on sale, and in only 15 days we received 150 million requests to buy tickets. That is 10 million requests every day. This shows how powerful the World Cup is,” Infantino said while speaking at the World Sports Summit in Dubai.
Earlier this month, fan groups criticized ticket prices, which were several times higher than those for the same matches at the 2022 World Cup.
FIFA subsequently introduced a ticket category priced at $60 in order to make matches more accessible to fans.
“In the nearly 100-year history of the World Cup, FIFA has sold a total of 44 million tickets. So in just two weeks, we could ‘fill’ 300 years of World Cups. Imagine that. It is absolutely incredible,” Infantino added.
According to him, the largest number of ticket requests came from the United States, followed by Germany and the United Kingdom.
“It is crucial that the revenues generated in this way are returned to football all over the world. Without FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries worldwide. Football exists thanks to these revenues that we generate through the World Cup and then reinvest across the globe,” Infantino concluded.
