Greek tennis star wins 2026 Moldova Open Challenger
Greek tennis player Stefanos Sakellaridis won the 2026 Moldova Open Challenger 100 title after defeating Romania’s Cezar Crețu in the final, 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-3, in a match lasting two hours and 41 minutes.
The Romanian player, ranked No. 370 in the ATP standings, claimed the opening set after dominating the tie-break 7-1. However, tournament top seed Sakellaridis, currently ranked No. 197 in the world, mounted a strong comeback and won the next two sets by identical 6-3 scores to secure the second Challenger title of his career, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
On his way to the final, Sakellaridis defeated Argentina’s Genaro Alberto Olivieri 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals. Crețu, meanwhile, advanced by overcoming Moldova’s top-ranked player, Radu Albot, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Sakellaridis will receive €23,700 in prize money and 100 ATP ranking points. Runner-up Crețu earned €14,000 and 50 ATP points.
The victory in Moldova marks the second Challenger trophy of Sakellaridis’ career, following his triumph at the Delhi Open last year.
