Moldova may cancel lifetime payments for doped athletes
Lifetime allowances granted to athletes may be revoked if they admit violations of anti-doping legislation. A decision to this effect was approved today by the government, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
“We are going to amend the regulatory framework in order to reiterate zero tolerance toward doping and to build a mechanism through which, in unfavorable situations, we can withdraw the lifetime allowance received by our athletes in cases where such circumstances are identified,” said Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun during the government meeting.
The draft provides that the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) will permanently cancel the payment of lifetime allowances for high-performance athletes and coaches who have violated anti-doping legislation in their sporting activity. At the same time, at the application stage, MEC will be able to refuse granting the allowance if the same reasons are documented.
According to the project’s explanatory note, 69 athletes and coaches currently benefit from lifetime allowances funded from the state budget.
