Simone Biles named Laureus Academy ambassador
American gymnast Simone Biles, winner of 41 Olympic and World Championship medals, is the new ambassador of the Laureus Academy, the organization famous for its awards known as the “Oscars of Sport,” EFE reports, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
“She is a true role model for young people around the world,” said former Romanian gymnast Nadia Comăneci, a member of the Laureus Academy.
Biles has won the Laureus Female Athlete of the Year award four times (2017, 2019, 2020, 2024), and in 2025 she received the latest International Female Athlete of the Year award, ahead of Belarusian tennis player Arina Sabalenka and Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmatí, at a ceremony at Madrid’s Cibeles Palace.
She began her new role with a visit to Milan, attending a Laureus-supported gymnastics and multisport project that provides children and youth with opportunities for development through sport.
Together with her husband, Jonathan Owens, a Chicago Bears football player, Biles also attended the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, supporting athletes in competition.
“It is a great honor for me to support Laureus and share the great idea behind everything I do: that sport has the power to change the world,” said the seven-time Olympic gold medalist.
Biles joins a long list of Laureus athlete ambassadors, including footballers Jude Bellingham, Thiago Alcântara, and Paulo Dybala, as well as former tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza.
The Laureus World Sports Awards are presented annually to the world’s best athletes for their achievements in the previous year, both individually and as part of a team, across multiple categories.
