Croatia's Maja Srhoj wins gold medal at World Junior Taekwondo Championships

Croatian taekwondo athlete Maja Srhoj won the gold medal at the World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, while her club teammate Petra Uglešić secured bronze.

Srhoj reached the medal in the under-68 kg category by first defeating Rinas Tamim (UAE) 2-0, followed by the same score against Valeria Balcazar (Mexico), Salma Abdelmeged Mahmoud (Egypt), and Yuge Chen (China). In the semifinal, she beat Spain’s Paula Mora Domínguez 2-0. In the final, she also won 2-0 against Serbia’s Ema Zečević, CE Report quotes HINA.

Petra Uglešić competed in the under-44 kg category, defeating Yu Bin Kang (KOR), Nurul Izzah Humaira (MAS), Virginia Lampis (ITA), and Abrar Joubeli (TUN), before losing in the semifinal to Kazakhstan’s Aijm Serikbayeva 2-1, which was enough for bronze.

On Wednesday, Matija Petelinšek (TK Ion) in the under-54 kg category and Filip Krnjaić (TK Dubrava) in the under-78 kg category also competed. Petelinšek was eliminated in the first round, while Krnjaić was stopped in the round of 16.

Croatia has so far won four medals at the World Championships. Before Petra Uglešić and Maja Srhoj, Klara, Petra’s sister, won silver, while Sara Žižić took bronze.
