Argentine football star Lionel Messi (38) has become the owner of Spanish fifth-division club UE Cornellà, the club from a suburb of Barcelona announced.

With this move, the Barcelona and Argentina legend has joined a growing list of footballers who have decided to invest part of their earnings in lower-league clubs, CE Report quotes MIA.

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé invested several million euros two years ago in French club Caen, N’Golo Kanté is the owner of Belgian side Royal Excelsior Virton, while Gerard Piqué is at the helm of Spanish second-division club Andorra.

The list also includes Jamie Vardy, who is part of the ownership group at Rochester New York, as well as David Beckham, who brought a number of former Barcelona players to Inter Miami, including Messi.
