FIFA to use seeded draw for 2026 World Cup group stage
The International Football Federation (FIFA) will use a seeded draw system for the group stage of next year’s World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
This system is based on team rankings, CE Report quotes STA.
In practice, it means that Spain and Argentina, currently the highest-ranked teams on the FIFA rankings, cannot face each other before the final.
This is only the case if both teams finish first in their respective groups.
