Moldovan archer wins gold at World Series in Switzerland

Moldovan archer Andrei Belici became champion at the Indoor Archery World Series tournament for athletes under 21, held in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The young athlete won the individual competition after three victories, defeating Swiss representative Noe Wenger in the final, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

In the qualifying round, Belici achieved 33 perfect shots out of 60 and scored 566 points out of a possible 600, finishing fifth before the knockout stages.

In the quarterfinals, coached by Irina Cecanova, he beat China’s Boxiang Tang with a score of 6-4, then defeated Slovakia’s Matej Kuchar 6-2 in the semifinals.

He won by the same score (6-2) in the final against Switzerland’s Wenger.

The Republic of Moldova was also represented in the senior competition:

Alexandra Mîrca was eliminated in the round of 16, Nadejda Celan exited in the round of 32, and Dan Olaru was also stopped at the same stage.

Andrei Belici’s victory confirms the progress of Moldovan archers in international youth competitions and brings another notable success for Olympic sport in Moldova.
