Greek sprint star qualifies for World Championship semifinals
Polyniki Emmanouilidou delivered an impressive performance in the 200m heats at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The Greek champion recorded her season’s best with 22.92, finishing third in the first heat and securing her ticket to Thursday’s semifinals (18/9, 14:55) as the 21st overall, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.
The winner of the race was American Anavia Battle, who clocked 22.07 — the fastest time of the qualifying round overall — followed by Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith from Ivory Coast with 22.39.
Cypriot champion Olivia Fotopoulou also advanced to the semifinals, finishing fifth in her heat with 22.98, but qualifying as one of the fastest losers (the top three from each of the six heats and the next six fastest overall advanced).
