Former Manchester United midfielder and captain Antonio Valencia became the hero of an emotional moment on the night of July 28, 2025, when he intervened to prevent a possible suicide from the old bridge over the Chiche River, west of Quito, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

While passing through the area, he noticed a young man preparing to take the drastic step. Without hesitation, he stopped his car, got out, and had the courage to approach and speak to him with comforting and motivational words.

"I didn’t save him, but I tried to talk to him. Thank God he recognized me, and I said a few encouraging words," Valencia said afterward.

After the young man’s family and the National Police arrived, the situation calmed down, and the individual decided not to take the fatal step.

Valencia shared a video of the scene on social media and expressed both sorrow and responsibility:
"Let’s take care of ourselves... life is very fragile."

This incident highlights a serious issue in Ecuador: according to ECU 911, more than 300 suicides were reported across the country in 2024, and from November 2023 to May 2025, 1,390 similar emergencies were recorded.

Valencia, also known as a Manchester United icon (10 seasons, two Premier League titles, a Europa League, and other trophies), has become a symbol of humanity and moral awareness for many.
