Chelsea Must Sell Players to Fund Champions League Signings

Chelsea is among the top four teams in the Club World Cup, a competition that is bringing huge financial benefits, but the English club has another problem to solve before the start of the new competition season, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

According to The Times, Chelsea are forced to sell part of their current squad in order to sign new players for next season's Champions League. This is because the English club must have a positive transfer balance, a requirement that has been in place for at least two seasons.

In other words, as reported by the aforementioned media outlet, the regulations stipulate that "any expenditure to add players to their UEFA-registered squad must be covered by the earnings of the players who leave". Therefore, the bonuses earned for World Cup results do not help the Blues meet this requirement.

Maresca's team started the transfer market early. Chelsea have so far signed players such as Liam Delap (35 million euros), João Pedro (63.7 million euros) and Jamie Gittens (60 million euros). There are also rumors linking the arrival of more players to the club after the World Cup. This situation does not improve the prospects regarding UEFA's demands.
