Kosovo Chess Federation Hosts Youth Individual Championship

Sports

The Kosovo Chess Federation held the individual championship for young age groups, a competition that highlighted the great talent many young people have for this sport.

Even though everyone was under the age of 18, the competition was of high quality and with duels that brought great adrenaline, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

The biggest innovation of this championship was that for the first time, the youngest champion of this sport at the local level was also introduced, who was Mal Berisha at only five and a half years old.

At the close of the championship, the Director of Sports in the Municipality of Pristina, Kushtrim Mushica, said that the sport of chess will soon have its own hall where all championships and other ongoing activities will take place.

"We, as the Director of Sports, always try to provide the right support for the sport of chess. I hope that the next championship or championships that will take place in this sport will take place in facilities that are home to this sport, so that you have your own conditions and your own address, and this youth that I see today will produce world-class chess players and represent our country in the best way possible," stressed Mushica.

Meanwhile, the President of the Chess Federation, Armend Budima, confirmed that the champions emerging from this individual championship will be the ones who will represent Kosovo in the European and world championships to be held this year.

"What is very important is that in this championship we have a novelty that we have the youngest champion ever that Kosovo has had. He is Mal Berisha who, at five and a half years old, is declared champion for the young age groups. Also, in addition to Mal, I congratulate all the winners on the champion title and all the champions will represent Kosovo in the European and world competitions that will be held this year," said Budima.
