Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea secured a spot in the second round of the Miami Open (WTA 1000) on Tuesday, defeating Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-3, 7-6 (7/5) in 1 hour and 47 minutes, CE Report quotes Agerpres

The 34-year-old Cirstea (WTA 101) made a strong comeback in the second set, recovering from a 4-2 deficit. This victory follows their only previous meeting, where Cirstea won 6-0, 6-3 in Dubai in 2020.

Cirstea earned $35,260 and 35 WTA points for her win and will face defending champion Danielle Collins in the next round. Collins, ranked 15th, has won both of their prior encounters, including a 6-3, 6-2 victory last year.
