Thousands of women in Serbia affected by dark web leak of intimate data

Serbia

Following the hacking of the state telecom and the Business Registers Agency, the most intimate data of thousands of women have appeared on the dark side of the internet in Serbia.

The leak of confidential medical records from gynecological clinics in Belgrade has caused panic, while the relevant authorities have so far remained silent, CE Report quotes FENA.

A few days after it was confirmed that the data of several hundred thousand users of the state telecommunications operator had been hacked, Serbian media reported that an as-yet undetermined number of health records, mostly of patients from certain gynecological clinics in Belgrade, have also leaked online.

On the so-called dark web, medical data primarily of gynecological patients have appeared — including full names, addresses, phone numbers, diagnoses, tests, treatments, marital status, and more, reports the N1 cable television portal.

Among the leaked information are also the names of doctors from several gynecological clinics in Belgrade and other healthcare institutions.

The Ministry of Health and the prosecutor’s office have not yet responded to requests for comment, N1 reports.

This new hacking case follows the March attack on the Serbian state telecommunications operator Telekom, in which data of 338,934 users were compromised.

Only a few days after that cyberattack, the state Business Registers Agency was also targeted.
