US midterm elections: Trump concedes Republican defeat
US President Donald Trump has conceded defeat in response to the first results of the midterm elections.
He made the remarks in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Projections by US media indicate a decisive victory for the Democrats, who are expected to take control of majorities in both chambers of the US Congress.
Trump, however, is not accepting responsibility for the defeat, blaming it primarily on Republican candidates and the media.
Trump said he believes Republicans would have won the midterm elections had he personally campaigned in the race.
“I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!,” the U.S. President wrote.
Midterm elections to the US Congress are currently underway. Americans are voting for 35 of the 100 Senate seats and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives. According to reports, Democrats have secured at least 127 seats in the lower chamber of Congress, while Republicans have won 83 seats.
