US reportedly weighs NATO suspension for Spain

Politics

The United States is discussing the possibility of suspending Spain’s membership in NATO after Spain allegedly refused to make military bases available for a potential conflict with Iran, Reuters reported, citing sources.

According to the same sources, in the case of the United Kingdom, a possible review is being considered of Washington’s position regarding the status of the Falkland Islands, which are claimed by Argentina, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

One of the options under discussion would also involve limiting access for so-called “problematic” states to important or prestigious positions within NATO structures.

Earlier, several media outlets reported that the United States had drawn up an unofficial list of NATO countries divided into “good” and “problematic” members, depending on the level of support shown in the context of tensions related to Iran.
