Albania aims to accelerate its European Union accession process by stepping up engagement with its diaspora, State Minister for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption Adea Pirdeni said.

Speaking at a panel as part of the Diaspora Summit in Tirana, Pirdeni said cooperation with Albanians abroad is critical to advancing EU membership efforts, CE Report quotes ATA.

She noted that Albania, alongside Montenegro, is among the frontrunners in the EU accession process, and said the country’s public administration has so far been able to meet the demands of negotiations.

However, she acknowledged that significant challenges remain, which require joint efforts to overcome.

“At this stage of the process, it is important that we strengthen our capacities and extend a hand of cooperation to those who live outside Albania but remain closely engaged with developments in the country,” Pirdeni said.

She stressed that aligning with EU standards remains a top priority, with ongoing efforts to meet the bloc’s requirements.

Pirdeni also called on young professionals and experts in the diaspora to contribute to the country’s future at what she described as a critical moment for EU integration.
